Quoting Island Dog,   Just an update. We are currently working on the system that will resolve the issues that have come up in this post, and should prevent any activation issues for users who want to install on their home PC and laptop for instance. We're hoping to get the changes made as soon as possible and just wanted to keep you updated to let you know we are working on a resolution. We'll update once everything is set. We're sorry for the troubles, and if you have any issues please feel free to contact support or let me know if I can help.

Update:

We have completed our server-side changes to relax the activation limits for Fences and Object Desktop subscriptions.

You can continue to use version 2.13. If you have any issues or concerns, please contact support at support@stardock.com.

Thank you for your patience!

Will the latest update come with a EULA/ToS update as well? and then there are those who insist on being dissatisfied no matter what you do.

Didn't say I was dissatisfied, it was a simple question.  The change was put in to enforce the EULA.

The mechanism is new. The change to the EULA is not and dates back at least to the release of Fences 2.  Failing to read it is not going to make it cease to exist.  https://www.stardock.com/support/software_eula.aspx

Use on a computer:

  1. You may:

    1. Install and use one (1) copy of the Software on a single computer.
    2. Install the Software on another computer only if you change your main workstation. In such a case you must uninstall the Software from the previous computer.
    3. Use the Software via a network, only if you have purchased an adequate number of licenses. The number of users must not exceed the number of licenses you have purchased. The trial or free versions of the Software is licensed to be used on one (1) computer. The paid version of the Software may be used on one (1) computer.
    4. Make a single backup copy of the Software for archival purposes only.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Fortunately, that is subject to modification........within reason.

I have had Fences on my desktop and my laptop and two laptops for years now. Plus many other Stardock software like Decor8, ModernMix, Multiplicity 2, ObjectDock, etc. My desktop PSU died last night and so I turned my laptop on today to find out that Fences is no longer activated on my laptop. I use Fences along with cloud storage to sync my desktop icon layouts for each of my PCs. There is no way I will pay twice for a product that has worked on multiple PC's in the past. Regardless of the recent license policy change I feel like I'm being robbed if I have to purchase a new license for each computer when it worked for years. I will be patiently waiting for the license issue to be resolved. Until then I will no longer purchase any Stardock software nor recommend any either. It's not good business to pull the carpet from under your customers, especially those who have been customers for years. If there was a change it should apply to new customers only. Previous customers should be grandfathered in. Unfortunately if it isn't resolved I will just wind up uninstalling the Stardock software all together.

Island Dog

The fixes are going to QA, which is necessary because we obviously want to make sure the changes in place are working correctly.  After that they should go live and we'll be watching for feedback after that.

I'll update again when I have more news, and we appreciate your patience.

Replying to this mainly so I can subscribe, but also to let Stardock know that this is the difference between them getting my cash and not. Someone just linked me to Fences last week, and I quite liked its features. Totally worth 10 bucks, but I don't really feel like paying twice, for my (personal, only used by me) work machine and my non-work machine. As with everyone else in this thread, I use both of those machines every day, but never at once. I have the demo installed on one of them as of a few days ago, and was just making sure that I could use it on both if I paid for it before buying it, which apparently I can't do right now. If I can before the demo expires, I'll buy it.

Also seems rather odd that you'd be willing to get a technical resolution in place rather than just telling people to go away (which definitely both makes me happy and just generally seems like a good idea business-wise), but that the EULA is apparently still going to remain the same, saying that no, you totally can't install it on both your machines even though you can?

I don't have the opportunity to post as much as I used to but I read what I can.

It's nice to be missee though.  Thanks!

Working in SD QA is a great gig and I love being in a place to solve problens before they become pubic (like I did on the support team).I do miss you all though.

See you around.

(And if you see any bugs . . . . .it's rhe other QA guy's fault.

I still get 'nervous' around someone messing with code......

Island Dog I am legally blind and would love to help you all by beta testing.  I know that the software we have to use sometimes interferes with programs.

Does the update come with free Oreos this time?

I hope not, I hate them.

With all the changes we see everyday in this world, it's wonderful to see that some things will never change.

I appreciate the offer, but this is something that doesn't require any beta testing of sorts.

Things are moving along.
