Quoting Island Dog,   Just an update. We are currently working on the system that will resolve the issues that have come up in this post, and should prevent any activation issues for users who want to install on their home PC and laptop for instance. We're hoping to get the changes made as soon as possible and just wanted to keep you updated to let you know we are working on a resolution. We'll update once everything is set. We're sorry for the troubles, and if you have any issues please feel free to contact support or let me know if I can help.

Update:

We have completed our server-side changes to relax the activation limits for Fences and Object Desktop subscriptions.

You can continue to use version 2.13. If you have any issues or concerns, please contact support at support@stardock.com.

Thank you for your patience!

Crowza

This issue is effecting me as well. I submitted a tech support ticket over the weekend, but I have not had a response yet. My hard drive crashed last week, I got my system back up and running over the weekend and formatted the drive, and reinstalled Fences 2.0. Then I realized that the Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center activation was screwed up, so I had to format it again and start installing everything over from scratch.

It was only then that I discovered I could not reinstall Fences 2.0. Ugh.

Everything else (Start 8, etc.) was fine. I've never had a problem like this with a Stardock product before, and I've been using Object Desktop since back when it was first developed for OS/2.

Your ticket has been replied to.

Thank you!

Subscribing to this thread... I purchased Fences today under the impression that the EULA still allowed for one desktop and one laptop for example.  After buying, I glanced at the EULA and saw it had changed (guess I should have checked that first).  So I searched a bit and found this thread.  I am admittedly not in exactly the same boat as everyone else here, but I'll be interested to see how this works out.  Thanks to the Brad and the Stardock folks for keeping us apprised.  FWIW, I'm using the 30-day trial until I find out what the verdict is, so I haven't used an activation yet.

Stardock: Please note that my primary workstation has three boot partitions, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Linux where I run Windows 7 and/or Windows 8 in VMWare.  It's all one PC, with one paying customer.  Please keep this kind of scenario in mind when 'setting the bar'.

Nearly all the utilities I run don't require an annual fee, and $30 annually is pretty high (for me at least).  "Value" brings "Sales".  If I have to micromanage my installs I won't see your product(s) as a good value anymore.  And more importantly, if I am re-installing my OS or setting up a Virtual Machine I have enough to deal with without sweating about my install count etc, and I certainly don't ever want an existing pre-authorized install to suddenly lock me out!  Which is what happened today.

This coming from a customer who has supported you for well.. pretty much the beginning.  I know it was stated that this would be addressed, but I wanted to share my position with you in hopes that you'll address the issue in a way that satisfies my needs.

Peace.

I too was among the many  wondering what the *&%# happened to my favorite suite of apps.  I have two main PCs both at home that I alternate on (they're sort of twins) so I can leave a long running process on one them and still use the other.  I appreciate the response from Brad (and Stardock) and look forward to the updates.  If we need to make it fair to use it on other machines (I have 4 PCs, a laptop, and a Windows 8 Tablet) that I am on the ONLY user on then so be it....did I mention the fair ($$$) part?

Its nice to know there are companies out there that still care about their users.

I also am a long time subscriber/owner to Stardocks software/games. Just recently after updating to the latest 2.13 version of Fences I can no longer use Fences on my 3 computers that I use (Personal Desktop, Laptop and Work Laptop), although not a huge issue to purchase maybe an additional license for use on my work laptop. It just feels sudden without notice that I can't use Fences currently on my desktop and it won't activate to restore my icons and arrangements.

Look forward to seeing what your able to do for the good people that support Stardock. After reading through the posts, I hope you have something soon so I can resume using your awesome product Start8 and Fences.

As a 11 year subscriber to the object desktop I find this extremely disappointing.  Dog's instant response of zero flexibility in the EULA in relation to the old EULA is just sad.  I am glad to see that Island Frog seems to be interested in satisfying what im sure is a huge customer base.  My OD subscription renews in just over a month.  If this issue is not resolved by then, I wont be renewing.

This is becoming a real joke and pain in the butt , 1st one PC has the  subscription issue with fences , I commented on this forum but also contacted support .

Support was kind enough to issue a second license for fences to fix the problem

BUT today I start both my PCs and now the second PC is having the problem even though I now have a Object Dock subscription and a second fences Licence ????

Come on Star dock WTF is going on?

This is getting very frustrating

thanks David

The current version is 2.13. The previous version 2.12 seems to still work and can be used as a work around until this issue is sorted. 2.12 can be found here http://filehippo.com/download_fences

If you do install 2.12, please uninstall 2.13 first and reboot. I did not fist time around and just installed on the top of 2.13 and got a botched installation.

Oh my god.. Yes i feel the pain.. Once i got my laptop back from the RMA i also had the pains of upgrading from 8 to 8.1 then adding my pro key. and just to find out fences wont work.. so disappointing and  time consuming..

on Jun 24, 2014

Yep I reinstalled 2.12 for the time being , If your a Object Desktop subscriber and use Object Desktop Manager older versions of installed software can be found on your PC at C:\Users\*****\Downloads\Stardock  where ***** is your user name

Or open  Object Desktop Manager , go to settings >File locations>Browse go to folder

If Star dock wish to change the rules that's there right BUT atleast inform Us Long time users (12years+ myself) and give US the option to buy a multiuser Licence of the Object desktop subscription , for example its $49 a year (in the past that was for more than one PC)

So Have $49 for one PC and $59 for 3 to 5 PCs for personal use , companies can pay more for  more than 5 pcs ect

I have a huge collection of Anime DVDs (5000) and a lot of them are no longer published so I decided to copy them all to a 4 TB HD

I purchased WinX DVD ripper bundle , It included WinX DVD ripper , WinX Copy and WinX video converter for $39

But for $49 I could get a 5 PC version of the bundle which I did .

Now this is how Stardock should handle this situation if they wish to Change things and charge Companies and Home users differently

cheers David

PS : Stardock please sort this out asap

I will not resubscribe my Object desktop account if its not sorted out in time ,

OH and another thought lol

ALL Stardock games are on STEAM and ALL the STEAM games can be installed on multiple machines , they just cant be played at the same time ,

So why is Object desktop software any different ?

I currently have STEAM on 2 AIO PCs , 2 laptops and a Surface Pro2 without a problem with STEAM or any of the games including the Stardock games

I am paid up for the next 2 years in advance, I am not worried. I have been around here long enough that I know Brad is gonna take care of us, His core user base. Always has.

Patience will go a long way. Let's give them time to get it sorted.

Frogboy
Here on the forums, we get to talk to our core (well IMO our core) user base. But in terms of raw sales, it's usually from big companies ordering lots of copies and the enterprise team kept running into situation where a "big" company would order * $4.99 copy and put it on 3,500 machines. But in trying to address that, they forgot to keep in mind the people who want it on their work machine, home machine, laptop, etc. We don't expect those customers to have to purchase multiple copies.

Jim...it's well taken, but absolutely futile.

They don't want to accept what

Ogm1us
Island Frog
has told them, reiterated by Fuzzy, me, you and others.

Here's an idea: If you're having problems with Fences, try getting some help from Support...or just be patient until THIS WEEK frogboy changes the policy and gets the necessary changes in motion.

The better address for Support is: https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit

They're just to happy with their rants, threats, 'entitlement', and demands for instant gratification to yield to anything as banal as logic, patience and a decision by SDs owner. After all, what does he know and what weight could his decisions possibly have?

on Jun 25, 2014

Since everything seems to be said already, i just like to express my support for the people complaining – i am one of them. This should at least have been announced. Besides that, there should be someone taking care of all us long time customers. Buy everything a second or third time is not a good solution. I am not even sure this is correct to change those licence model for a already paid application in such a drastic way and without any warning. Probably we may see further information soon – better late than never. That is Stardock today: one day a 15% off, the next day a bug fix release for years old bugs, the next day they shut down your second systems desktop configuration without warning (as i guess this will happen to all of Stardock's products with the next update). Not so great, guys. (IMHO) But at least it never gets boring, eh?

I hope Frogboy's announcements get a solution for us soon. Why someone would do something like this in the exact wrong order is beyond my imagination. This reaction of the users was absolutely predictable.
